Lactic Acid is a water soluble AHA that loosens the bonds holding dead cells and product residue to the scalp surface, so buildup rinses away instead of being rubbed off. Because it works on the surface rather than inside the pore, it is gentler than salicylic acid and better tolerated by a dry or reactive scalp. Sodium Hyaluronate holds water where the acid has worked, which is why the scalp feels comfortable afterwards rather than tight. Nettle Leaf Extract, from organic farming, soothes the surface once the buildup is gone.

Fragrance free. No perfume and no essential oils, because fragrance is the most common cause of scalp reactions in cosmetics.

How to Use

Apply on dry

Part your hair and apply straight to a dry scalp, section by section. Dry is deliberate: with no water competing, the acid works on the buildup and nothing else.

Wait five minutes

Three to five minutes is all it needs. Nothing to rub, nothing to massage in. The lactic acid loosens the residue while the hyaluronate holds water at the surface.

Rinse and wash

Rinse thoroughly and shampoo as usual. The scalp is left clean and comfortable rather than stripped, and the roots have nothing sitting on them.

What does this serum actually do?
It clears buildup at the root. Lactic acid gently lifts the residue that shampoo alone leaves behind, while sodium hyaluronate keeps the scalp hydrated so it never feels stripped.
Is lactic acid the same as salicylic acid?
No. Both exfoliate the scalp, but they work differently. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble and gets into the follicle, which suits an oily, flaky scalp. Lactic acid is water-soluble and works on the surface, gentler and better suited to a dry or sensitive scalp. This formula uses lactic acid.
How often should I use it?
Once or twice a week. Apply to a dry scalp, leave for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Scalp scrub or this serum, which is better?
Neither is better, they suit different people. A physical scrub like Deep Mint works through massage and a cooling sensation. This serum works through the acid alone, with no texture and no fragrance, which suits a scalp that reacts to fragrance or to physical scrubbing.
Will it dry out my scalp?
No. Sodium hyaluronate holds water at the surface while the lactic acid works, so the scalp stays hydrated rather than stripped.
Why does it have no fragrance?
Fragrance is one of the most common causes of scalp irritation, and this is the product most likely to be used on a scalp that is already reacting to something. We left it out on purpose.
